WEST SIDE LACROSSE WILL BE OFFERING MULTIPLE FORMS OF BOX LACROSSE IN 2023/2024

  • Youth/High School indoor Leagues
  • Youth & High School Travel Teams
  • Drop In Games

Box lacrosse is a different style of lax that is played indoors.  There are many benefits to playing box lacrosse in the off season.  The game is a little faster as it is played on a smaller field.  It helps improve stick skills and decision making.  All players use short sticks so it helps improve position defense.  The nets are smaller with bigger goalie pads which makes it harder to score.  This helps improve shooting and finishing and creates more transition play.  Box lax requires constant substitutions for more playtime and reps!  There are so many benefits but the most important is that it is fun!!!

American field players would really help themselves if they were exposed to a steady stream of box experience. Box lacrosse is an extremely valuable background for a young player, we need to incorporate more of the indoor skills in to the field game. It is almost a requirement to have a top player with indoor experience on your roster right now.

I believe that box lacrosse gives young people many more opportunities to excel in our game. If I had my choice, I would have every player under the age of twelve play box lacrosse exclusively or at least a majority of the time. The number of touches of the ball and the ability to develop better stick skills in a game of box lacrosse, far surpasses what happens to young people on a 110 x 60 yard field. Learning how to pass and catch in traffic, understanding how to shoot, and developing a sense of physicality are all positive traits developed by the box game.

TRAVEL BOX LACROSSE

Travel Box Teams

West Side will be offering Travel Box teams at the High School and Middle School level for the 2022/23 Winter Season.

We are excited to be bringing in special guest coaches with Box Lacrosse experience to help train and educate our players and coaches.

  • Practices: Sundays @ Soccer Stop starting Nov 12th through Feb - 10 Team Practices!!!
    • 5/6 (Pee-wee) & 7/8 (Bantam) 1:00-2:30
    • High School 2:30-4:00
  • TOURNAMENTS: 
    • Lax in the Zoo - Dec 16/17 Kalamazoo MI 
    • Great Lax Box Classic - Jan 27, 28, Canton, MI
  • COST:  TBA
    • Every player and coach must be a member of USBOXLA for insurance and safety.  If you do not have a USBOXLA membership you need to go to http://membership.usboxla.com and apply for either a weekend warrior membership for $20.00 or a full annual membership for $45.00. NOT INCLUDED IN DUES!
  • UNIFORMS & GEAR:  
    • Box jerseys will be provided and turned in after season.  They will be available for purchase if wanted.  
    • Goalie Gear will be provided.
